Just as summer of 2008 came to a close, my husband and I were both diagnosed with diabetes, and one of our daughters got a diagnosis of borderline diabetic. Time for some drastic changes in our lifestyle! We have been struggling to lose weight, but this is going to get us up and moving like nothing else has been able to!

When you buy food that is factory prepared, you do not have control over what goes into that meal. Reading the ingredients is quite frightening sometimes! It seems that nearly everything has sugar of one form or another added. Sometimes the “sugar free” versions of an item are worse for you than the regular version! Cooking at home is a lot healthier, tastier, and it can be fun too!

As diabetics, we need to watch our sugar and total carbohydrate consumption. We also need to lose weight, so fat and calories are important to us as well. Lots of fresh and whole foods will help!

The recipes and snack ideas that are shared here are healthy for almost anyone, not only those with diabetes. If you have a health condition, please check with your doctor before trying any recipes or exercises within this website and blog.

Why Another Food Site?

stockpot I created this site because I wanted to show people how to cook basic, easy-to-prepare, meals so they don’t need to settle for warmed up, out-of-the-package, pre-cooked foods. I want to teach people how to cook without all the fat, salt and sugar that most of these fast foods contain. Cooking at home is so much healthier, and it tastes so much better. The good news is YOU CAN DO IT!

I have been cooking for about 30 years, starting as a child, watching and learning from my grandmother and my mom. I also enjoyed cooking in 4-H for a number of years. I love to cook for my family and friends, and to figure out ways to make something just that much better! Each recipe I offer has been personally selected and prepared by me, and served to my family.

You wont find any bad, or untested, recipes here just to fill the pages! You can be sure that each one is tested, tasty and easy to make. And while nutritional value is always considered sometimes it’s okay to just treat yourself. Enjoy!
